From Neils son Josh :
I want to take a moment to update you: my dad passed on to heaven at 7:37pm this evening (July 29, 2020). He went comfortably and peacefully. Exactly how he wanted. I am proud to have carried out his wishes, no matter how hard they were. I take comfort in knowing I did what he asked. As a family we are strong knowing he is watching over us in no pain. I want to share, that Yesterday we had a prayer session with the same Rabbi, from New York, who performed my Grandpa’s funeral. It was divine intervention that my IT skills, a zoom call, and a Rabbi all came together with family from across the globe. We said goodbye in a way he would be proud. Earlier Today, My Aunt Melanie Webster and I went to The Beardsmith. I sat in the same chair as he did, with his same fantastic barber, who by the way trained in Holland... I got the same head shave and beard trim that my dad got. It was poetic, he passes, right after I got an amazing shave....Tyler Childers played in the background too.. who knew Texas Style Country made it up to Idaho... I believe God was watching and played the music that comforted me. I want to thank all of my friends, My Sugar Land Fam, the claws, my mom, my colleagues, my siblings, and especially Laura Skiba Sol. She has been my rock, always there to talk, supportive, and is handling the boys with such grace. God speed dad. Josh Sol Emma Sol Ben Sol Noah Sol

Robert Schechter (1969)

I have many fond memories of Neil, beginning in junior high school and continuing through college.  We spent many hours playing sports together in the Winthrop school yard on through intramural athletics at Brooklyn College.  We drifted apart after college, as life took us in different directions.  We reconnected around the time of the 40th reunion.  We spoke on the phone for a few hours, laughing as we remembered some of the "highlights" of our shared experiences growing up.  Neil told me about the issues he was having with his back, and shortly after, when we spoke again, he told me about his plans to come to NY for a very delicate surgery he was going to have because to try to alleviate his extreme back pain.  Unfortunately, the surgery resulted in Neil becoming paralyzed for the last years of his life.  Neil was extremely strong and powerful physcially, but had a soft side which he showed to those who were close to him. After his last few difficult years, may he now rest in peace.

I am saddened by the loss of an old friend. Thanks to Facebook we reconnected in the last few years. He was so special and sweet.

I remember a class trip to a museum I believe when we were at Winthrop. A handful of us were navigating through the museum and a guard stopped us and asked where our chaperone/ teacher was. We were not with an "adult".   However, Neil dressed in a suit stepped up and said he was the teacher. The guard just told us to go ahead and have a good time.  We had a great laugh. Does anyone remember that?  Funny how I don't remember what I had for breakfast these days but I do remember that and Neil fondly. My condolences to his family. He will be missed.    Sue Hellerstein Margolias.

I'm so sorry to hear of Neil's passing. Sending my sympathy to his family. Neil and I met in Winthrop and later had classes at Wingate. He was a just an all around nice person and was glad I had the opportunity to cross his path. Though we never connected afterward I will miss him.

So sorry to hear...Neil was so nice to me at Winthrop and Wingate.

While I was not the 'athlete' he was, he nonetheless

included me on the 'softball team'.   I remember feeling

so proud when he gave me a softball uniform shirt.  In

college I became an athlete and have spent my life

trying to be fit.   I thought about Neil's gracious

gesture from time to time.   I am sure he will be

missed by many.

It's so tough to accept that another beautiful flower from the very special garden we cultivated and populated during our days together at Wintthrop and Wingate will no longer blossom - at least not here on earth. I indeed remember Neil as a sweet, bright, jovial young man and I'm sorry to hear that he suffered some serious health setbacks in recent years.    Sounds like he persevered through all of that but unfortunately succumbed to this horrible  pandemic.  It also sounds like he left the world a beautiful family and legacy and was no doubt proud of his accomplishments.    Condolences to his family - his wonderful memory will no doubt live on through them and through all the people who knew and loved him.

My memories of Neil mainly center around the schoolyard games at Winthrop. He was a big guy with a good heart. May his memory be a blessing to his family and all who knew him.

I was sorry to hear about the passing of Neil Sol. I knew him through Winthrop and then through Wingate. I remeber he carried a shot put and parcticed in PS 268 schoolyard as we all played basketball.

He ws a trac and field athelte unusual for us to see back in the day.If anyone can shed light on his time after Wingate I would be grateful. College, and then time in Caifornia. Rest in peace old friend.
